Product Forum
Develop concepts for profitable new brands

A key feature of Baker Perkin’s presence at Interpack will be the Product Forum, featuring a host of attractive new end products offering the potential to build profitable brands.

Many new products are based around today’s lifestyle preferences in terms of health and pleasure. The healthy image associated with sugar-free hard candy and lollipop depositing, pioneered by Baker Perkins, is providing exciting opportunities. Depositing of gum base is another development arousing considerable market interest.

Others meet consumer demand for vibrant colours, with innovative flavour and texture profiles - deposited candies and lollipops can now be made in one to four colours, with stripes, layers or random patterns; and with one or two centre-fills.

Visitors to Interpack will be able to discuss new confectionery developments including high percentage hard candy centre-filling within a thin outer shell; combinations of materials using centre filling; the combination of hard candy with edible strips; and innovative nozzle profiles to make unique product concepts.

ServoForm depositors can be manufactured to cGMP standards for the pharmaceutical industry, necessary for functional/pharmaceutical end products with active ingredients. The high end quality achieved with depositing is a key benefit for products in this added-value sector.

Baker Perkins develops many new concepts with its Alliance partners:

• Palatinit for ingredients allowing sugar-free hard candies and lollipops to be made in the same selection of variations as sugar-based products.

CAFOSA, the leading supplier of gum base, for technology allowing the depositing of gum base, and incorporating gums into candies and lollipops.

Firmenich, the leading flavour supplier, with encapsulation and flavour technology.

British Sugar, the leading supplier of sugars in the UK, with typical applications for its milled sugar range.

These recent end product ideas developed by Baker Perkins and its alliance partners are already achieving market penetration:

Coconut milk based candies allow a variety of ‘tropical’ flavour combinations to be offered, utilising APV Baker’s development of a pre-cooking and injection system for milk and cream candy.

Hard/candy and toffee combinations in striped, centre-filled and layered products. This opportunity for unique tastes and textures utilises twin hoppers and independent cooking systems.

Butterscotch with up to 25% chocolate centre-filling extends the well-established butterscotch capability of APV Baker depositors. This capability can be retrofitted to existing plant.

Innovative layering combinations can now be achieved through twin-headed ServoForm™ depositors handling a variety of sugar-based and sugar-free syrups.
