SB extruder
An SB50 machine from the range of Baker Perkins twin-screw extruders will be on show at Interpack. Two additional models have been added to this range – the SB80 and SB100, offering outputs of up to 850 and 1,400 kg/hour respectively on a wide range of products including directly expanded breakfast cereals and snacks, filled pillows, snack pellets and crispbreads.
The SB80 and SB100 machines are equipped as standard with new swing-away dies that make life easier for the operator, by offering simpler and quicker access for cleaning and maintenance.
These twin-screw extruders combine process flexibility and rapid changeover between products, with control benefits to improve performance and profitability. PLC control is standard, providing automatic start and stop sequences to reduce time, energy and waste. The addition of a SCADA system provides benefits including recipe management, alarm handling, and monitoring and recording of key product and process parameters.
Dies
Die technology is the key to development of new snacks and breakfast cereals, and retrofitting new dies during the mid-life cycle of an extruder can freshen a product portfolio with new and attractive brands.

As a logical development from co-extrusion, the triple extrusion die provides new opportunities in taste and texture development.
A 6 stream co-extrusion die will be on show at Interpack. This features individual on-the-run adjustment of the flow rate of the cereal in order to maintain product quality and piece weight.
APV Baker has supplied over 40 co-extrusion plants to customers throughout the world. Many of these customers have undertaken trials at the Baker Perkins Innovation Centre in Peterborough, UK, where a full range of equipment is available for test and demonstration purposes along with expert help from Baker Perkin’s experienced process engineers.
