Baker Perkins is supplying barrel retrofit packages producing significant savings in cost of ownership and downtime on its range of MPF twin-screw extruders for the food industry.
An existing one-piece or segmented barrel liner is replaced with a state-of-the-art set of liner inserts and backing blocks. Further replacement is limited to worn inserts, rather than the complete liner. Additionally, replacement can be handled rapidly and simply in-house – previously the task involved substantial downtime and the services of specialist engineers.
This new technology typically reduces lifetime cost of liner replacement by around 50%. It allows further cost reduction through the choice of different materials within low-wear parts of the barrel, and harder wearing materials in critical contact areas.
Additional benefits include the introduction of cast slab heaters to replace cartridge heaters, improved heat distribution, extended life and simpler removal and replacement. Improved cooling is provided by more efficient circulation within new water channels.
The update covers MPF50, 65, 80, 100 and 125 series extruders, which are widely used throughout the world to produce an extensive range of cereal and snack products.
